We have just finished thorough testing of our Secure Shared Files Service (SSFS) on afxMedia.com and we would like to announce the service is now LIVE on the site, ready for use! You do need to be a registered user, but it’s a free service we offer to all of our customers. Hit the ‘Continue reading’ link below to learn more…
The service is meant to be quite intuitive and we certainly hope that’s so, but we also have a ‘Quick Guide’ available that should prove useful while becoming familiar with features and functionality. It’s always handily available within the service, and we’re providing it here as well, in case you want more detail now.
There are actually two separate services provided by SSFS, “Personal Briefcase” and “Secure Shared Files”. All registered users have access to both.
“Personal Briefcase” is a private and secure area for each user. While it’s not meant to be a Dropbox or SkyDrive like replacement, it is a place where you can back up that critical presentation you’ve been working on all day, and confidently know that it’s safe. Or, use it as a place to drop a few files before heading home, where you know you’ll be able to apply that final inspiration after some quiet reflection in the evening. We hope you will find many more uses for the briefcase feature.
“Secure Shared Files”, as the name implies, is a place for your Company, Organization or Team to share and collaborate. All registered users automatically have access to the ‘Public Files’ area, which is secured for ‘View’ and ‘Download’ only. It’s a place for afxMedia to share consistent content across all of our registered website users. In ‘Public Files’ you’ll find interesting software downloads for Mac and PC, as well as white papers and other helpful information across many technology areas. We are currently populating the folder and you can expect it to grow, becoming more and more useful over time. If you have something interesting to share with the community, please submit it through the ‘Contact Us’ form and we will certainly consider posting it.
If you are a client we’re currently working with, it’s likely you’ll also find your ‘Company Documents’ folder already available (i.e. ‘afxMedia Documents’, as shown above and in the Quick Guide). This folder is secured by a specific ‘Company Users’ Group, or ACL (Access Control List). If you are not a member of the group, you won’t see it and you won’t even know the folder exists.
Your company (and yours alone) has full control within the folder to ‘View’, ‘Create’, ‘Delete’, ‘Upload’, ‘Download’ and ‘Manage’ everything there. Typically, the primary reason the ‘Company Documents’ folder exists is so we can share and collaborate with customers, without relying on unsecured document links from the likes of Dropbox or SkyDrive. SSFS and the ‘Company Documents’ folder can be a powerful way for customers and afxMedia to publish, access and update project documents, with version control and automatic notifications.
If you decide that afxMedia doesn’t need to participate in your ‘Company Documents’ folder, well, we can and will honor that, too. We’ll remove our access and stay out! Either way, it’s your content. afxMedia makes no claim to it, will never reuse it, not for any purpose! The relationship with our customers in more important and this is spelled out within our Website Terms and Conditions.
If you do not already have a ‘Company Documents’ folder and have a legitimate need, current customer or not, let us know and we’re likely to help you.
We think the new service is great and has a lot of potential. We’re really excited about it and so pleased to make it available TODAY! We welcome and are looking forward to your feedback. Thanks for reading!
